GROUP STRUCTURE
BPT was born out of a desire to establish an enterprise that could benefit both itself and the broader community within which it operated – in essence an entity that could do good whilst also doing well. Thus, in 2007, The Broccoli Project Group was established as a hybrid NPO/For Profit initiative whereby a substantial portion of the profits and revenue generated by the commercial technology division, Broccoli Project Technology, would subsidise the social welfare efforts of an NPO, The Broccoli Project Trust, in helping alleviate food insecurity in South Africa. Today, over a decade later, BPT is the leading Southern African provider of profile management solutions and still contributes 26% of its profits to the Trust. The Trust, in turn has managed and implemented multiple charitable initiatives, amongst them a subsidized food voucher project for the homeless in conjunction with South Africa’s two largest supermarkets, PicknPay and Shoprite-Checkers. This structure creates a successful virtuous cycle which we strongly feel is a model that should be more broadly adopted by the business sector.
The Broccoli Group is a hybrid social enterprise that allows us to do good through doing well.
